According to the Alzheimer’s Association as baby boomers get older, the rates of Alzheimer’s disease among the people of this generation will climb considerably. The risk of Alzheimer’s disease increases with age, to nearly 50 percent among those older than 85.

Springhouse was honored to observe ”The Longest Day,” which is about love. Love for all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and held each year on the longest day; the summer solstice. This year our community came together to create floral arrangements to help raise awareness and end Alzheimer’s.

Three Springhouse Senior Living residents shared their stories on Wednesday, May 23rd at the Brookline Senior Center. Dr. Elinor ”Fuzzy” Downs has been a member of this group for over 20 years! Irving Hurwitz and Frank Blatt also shared their stories.

Eversound Enhances Engagement

Recently Springhouse’s Therapeutic Program Coordinator, Meredith Griffiths, had the pleasure of meeting with several new team members from Eversound to showcase how their headphone system has enhanced resident engagement at Springhouse. Eversound is a wireless headphone system that helps users hear more clearly during presentations, movies or any other activity that involves audio.

Thomas Crowe, Director of Maintenance at Springhouse Senior Living was named a recipient of the Facilities Excellence Award by the Massachusetts Assisted Living Association (Mass-ALA) at the organization’s annual Excellence Awards Dinner on May 23, 2018.

Wednesday, May 9th Springhouse Senior Living held a benefit for the women of Rosie’s Place. We painted white mugs for the moms at Rosie’s Place.

Springhouse residents in Allen House and Assisted Living at Ledgemont have their creative juices flowing thanks to two new Expressive Therapy groups lead by intern, Bailey McCombs. A masters-level student attending Lesley University’s Expressive Arts Therapy and Mental Health Counseling program, Bailey’s work at Springhouse has primarily focused on creative writing, specifically poetry.
