Coffee and Conversation with Former Governor Michael Dukakis
Springhouse Senior Living welcomed Former Governor Michael Dukakis on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
The Dukakis family holds a special place within Springhouse. We were fortunate enough to have Euterpe Dukakis, mother of Governor Michael Dukakis as wel as Harry Ellis Dickson, mother of Kitty Dukakis as residents of Springhouse in the early years.
On July 9, 2013, Springhouse was fortunate to have Governor Dukakis dine with the remaining founders and a few other noted special guests. Ruth Lubot, whose husband, Howard Lubot was instrumental in the founding of Springhouse remembers Governor Dukakis’s mother as “a delight to be with and we shared a love of baking; I made her coffee cake and Mrs. Dukakis made cookies. We grew very close and fond of each other.”
After dinner, Springhouse residents were treated to coffee and dessert with the Former Governor. He spoke to us about everything from his upcoming celebration of his 50th Wedding Anniversary to Kitty, a planned family trip to Greece, his 12 years as Governor of Massachusetts, and the recent political events and visions for Massachusetts’ future.
Many other residents know Former Governor Michael Dukakis from his campaigning days in their Brookline neighborhoods. Others know him from his more recent teaching days at Northeastern, and of course, some us remember him from his daily visits to his mother and father in law here at Springhouse.
